It is odd to me that I began to crochet in the first place. I always told myself and others that it was something I could and would never pick up on. It always bothered me to watch people crochet. The same thing over and over again it drove my brain crazy! I would rather sew was simple to me and comes together faster, you see the results your looking for quickly and I like quick results.
But alas I was at a point in my life where results were not happening quickly. It was in December after I had given birth to my second son Wallace in July, and I was working the early morning shift as a sales representative. My performance was not what I was used to after having Wallace, and I was still suffering a little from the baby blues. The morning hours went by like cold molasses waiting for calls to come in. I was tired. I was bored. I wanted to just give my shift away to someone who wanted the work, but we needed the money as a family so I stayed on my shift. Day after day this happened and there was no light at the end of the tunnel for me.
One morning while browsing through my Facebook page I started to look at baby pictures. They are always so sweet and make you smile, and I needed a smile to get me through the morning till I could go hug and kiss my baby boy. As the pictures went on I couldn't help but notice the darling hats that those babies were wearing. A spark was set off in my brain and I remembered {at some point in my shopping for fabric I bought some nice yarn to tie a quilt with. I figured well I may as well get the hook. However as soon as that quilt was done the yarn and crochet hook were put in a tote and forgotten about and time moved on and I moved on to bigger and better things} that yarn and hook and I was going to use it!
I started on YouTube, I figured there has to be a ton of tutorials there and I found Crochet Geek! I loved that channel Teresa teaches so thorough and it just made sense to me! I quickly made a beanie that morning and started on more! I loved beanies because I could see what was happening quickly didn't take too long for a project to get finished and I knew there were so many possibilities.
My husband and I had drawn names with my side of the family for Christmas and he wanted something to go along with the outfit he had purchased for my younger sister, so I told him I would make something up for her. And that is when I found Clare from BobWilson123! I loved Clare's sense of humor and crochet became my new obsession! Thanks to these two ladies I found something that made me happy. I had found my true creative outlet and I loved it!
My sisters and I had scheduled a winter photo shoot as a gift for my Mom that year and I decided it would be nice to make some beanies for it.
I gave these beanies as gifts to my younger sisters and that is when people in my family started telling me to sell my work. I didn't actually think that I was good enough to do it and put it off. It was not until later when I decided to get really creative, and make my first owl beanie for Wallace, my business started to boom locally!
That month has changed my life! I have ventured into different parts of crochet by now. I just made my first tea cozies, and made a cowl as gifts for friends. Fortunately for me that is just the beginning!
